Commercial fishing is at the core of Door County’s economy. It’s no wonder the classic fish boil has become as synonymous with Door County as cherries, summer vacations and the beautiful waters.

Fishing may be second-nature to Door County residents, but how much do you know about Door County’s commercial fishery? If you crave more knowledge on the subject, or simply want to meet the men and women who dedicate and risk their lives every day to ensure a sustainable fishery for future generations, visit Baileys Harbor for the Blessing of the Fleet Festival, May 20.

Spend the day learning about the Lake Michigan fishery, tales from the men and women who work it, and the history. Savor unique seafood options during the Lake to Table Culinary Event as local restaurants put on quite a spread featuring a locally sourced whitefish entrée with their own twists.

On Saturday night, make plans to dine in one of Baileys Harbor’s restaurants and enjoy a range of entrees from the classic fish fry at Cornerstone Pub to culinary creativity at Chives, Harbor Fish Market & Grille or Top Deck at Gordon Lodge. No matter where you choose to eat, you will dine on the freshest caught whitefish around. Fresh-caught fish moves from the nets to the kitchens of highly-skilled chefs and into beautifully crafted entrees.

Sunday morning brings the first Farmers Market of the season onto the lawn of the Baileys Harbor Town Hall. Local vendors sell fresh produce and proteins, great options for skin care, clothing and handmade items. For more information, visit BaileysHarbor.com or call 920-839-2366.
